No exports were found that match the constraint

Recently recieved an error while opening any file in a WCF service solution saying

RequiredTypeIdentity Microsoft.VisualStudio.Utilities.IContentTypeRegistryService

it turned out to be a faulty cache file located under the folder C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\11.0\ComponentModelCache

Deleting or renaming the file Microsoft.VisualStudio.Default.cache did the trick. some posts also suggested to delete the folder C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\11.0\ComponentModelCache
